proficiency, from beginners to advanced speakers.
French
Language Proficiency Levels
A1 - Beginner Level: At the A1 level,
you will learn basic terms and phrases, enabling you to navigate the streets of
Paris as a tourist. This level can be completed in 3 months with 110 hours of
instruction. By the end of A1, you will be able to understand and use familiar
everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at satisfying specific needs.
A2 - Elementary Level: Building on the
basics, the A2 level focuses on using simple vocabulary to communicate
information about daily tasks and activities. This level, combined with A1, can
be completed in 6 months. You will gain the ability to understand sentences and
frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance.
B1 - Intermediate Level (Threshold): At
the B1 level, learners can communicate and handle situations while travelling
in French-speaking countries. This level can be finished in 12 months with 220
hours of classes. You'll be able to deal with most situations likely to arise
while travelling and produce simple connected text on familiar topics.
B2 - Upper Intermediate Level (Vantage):
The B2 level enables users to communicate on various topics and engage in
technical discussions. Completion of this level requires 18 months and 330
hours of classes. Learners at this stage can interact with a degree of fluency
and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite
possible.
C1 - Advanced Level (Effective Operational Proficiency): At the C1 level, you will be able to communicate effectively in
professional and academic settings and socialise with French friends. This
stage focuses on high-level language use, allowing you to produce clear,
well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects.
C2 - Proficiency Level (Mastery):
Achieving the C2 level means you can speak and write in French like a native
speaker. You will be able to understand with ease virtually everything heard or
read and express yourself spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, even in
more complex situations.
